Author Guidelines

As a reviewer for the Open-Access Journal of Advanced Birdwatching, you play a vital role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the journal. Reviewers are asked to provide a thorough and objective evaluation of submitted manuscripts, focusing on scientific rigor, clarity, originality, and relevance to the field of ornithology and birdwatching. Please assess the validity of the research methods, the significance of the findings, and the quality of the writing. Constructive feedback should be provided to help authors improve their work, ensuring that the article contributes meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge. All reviews are conducted anonymously, and reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality throughout the process. We also encourage timely feedback to ensure efficient publication.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor). 

Research Articles

Original Research Articles – Empirical studies on bird behavior, ecology, conservation, and monitoring techniques (5,000–8,000 words)

Submissions to this section will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 independent scholars. The peer review process takes on average 4 weeks.

Review Articles

Review Articles – Comprehensive analyses of current trends and advancements in ornithology (6,000–10,000 words)

Submissions to this section will undergo editorial review. The review process takes on average 3 weeks.

Field Reports & Observations

Field Reports & Observations – Notable birdwatching records, rare sightings, and field-based case studies (2,000–4,000 words)

Submissions to this section will undergo editorial review. The review process takes on average 3 weeks.
